The birth of Jemtography
Hi! I’m Jemma Kay Plato [she/her] and this is why it has always been photography for me...
For as long as I can remember, I have always struggled finding my place and purpose in the world. It scared me to think that I wasn’t going about this life thing the proper way, it still does but what is, “the proper way”, anyway?
One day I found myself clinging onto the reminiscence of being drawn to the camera at the age of three and decided to run with it. Thinking there must’ve been a reason that happened, like I selected my solace or rather, my solace selected me. And that’s what it ended up being... my purpose, my destiny.
With the unconditional support of my creatively driven family and the honour of meeting many renowned photographers and artists in my life- I can safely say that I’ve never felt more tranquil within a commodity. I’ve always been drawn to the camera, to being behind the camera and to nature’s serene beauty. The best way to nourish my Biophilia was by binding the two things I adore so deeply.

A few credentials
I'd like to think that the achievements to my name as a photographer don't define my capabilities or passion in the field and I've come across manifold self-proclaimed photographers who are incredible at what they do, in every sense. Nevertheless, it is beneficial to have great photographs and the certification to show for it. As of 2021, I am a qualified photographer with a diploma in photography.
Before my three years of studies to achieve this, my inclination towards photography had begun at a very early stage in my life. I have always been surrounded by artistically driven individuals, so I was never refused exploration around the subject. At the age of 11, I joined my schools photography club with only my family's point and shoot camera at my disposal. Fast forward to 2014-2018, I had done an exhibition for a museum and assistant work for a studio. As well as, studying digital and darkroom photography with multiple Visual Arts awards and certificates to my name, bestowed by the high school and art school I attended.
Thereafter, we find ourselves at the origin of my professional studies. 2019, I had gone directly into university to extend my knowledge in the topic of photography and came out of that year with yet another award granted by my university. Now, to grow my clientele, my knowledge and experience, I capture people and events alongside my nature and abstract art, as I journey to my photographic destiny.
